Vangard Lofts’ fall move-in deal, Hi-Pointe’s new Courtesy Call burger and the Blues vs. Carolina on Saturday

Live

Vangard Lofts, the eight-story former fashion warehouse at 1110 Washington Ave., is leasing this fall with a move-in special that runs through the end of the month. It was the second Wash Ave apartment building Oliver Properties bought, right after Six Cord.

Oliver Properties bought the 87-unit building in January 2024 for $8.5 million, and by December of that year it was 92% leased, the St. Louis Business Journal reported (Nathan Rubbelke, Dec. 12, 2024). The building’s earlier conversion into loft apartments with street-level commercial space was financed in part with historic preservation tax credits. Since buying Vangard, Oliver has added 65 units at Ventana Lofts, plus the Bogen and Cordovan on the Park. “What really got me interested down here is all of the connectivity and walkability of this neighborhood — it’s very unique within downtown,” Alex Oliver told First Alert 4 in July.

The one- and two-bedroom lofts keep the building’s warehouse character: tall timber-beam ceilings, exposed brick and downtown city views. Every home has an in-unit washer and dryer and walk-in closets. Residents get a 24-hour fitness center, a club room, a TV lounge, an outdoor deck with grills and Luxer package lockers. Parking comes in a gated surface lot, covered spaces or the garage, and the building has controlled access and intercom entry.

This fall’s special offers $1,200 in free rent, plus the $285 admin fee credited, for anyone who applies within 24 hours of a tour and moves in by Oct. 30 (terms apply). Tours are by appointment. Call or text (314) 584-5472 or visit vangardlofts.com, and see the Vangard Lofts listing on Wash Ave.

And if you lived here, it’s a 5-block walk to dinner at Hi-Pointe Drive-In, where they have a new limited-time burger, the Courtesy Call, then a 20-minute walk to Enterprise Center for the Blues playing this Saturday (vs. the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, 6 p.m.).

Eat | Drink

Hi-Pointe Drive-In, at 634 Washington Ave., has a new limited-time burger built on a St. Louis classic. The Courtesy Call is a Hi-Pointe x Courtesy Diner collaboration inspired by the slinger: a single Hi-Pointe patty topped with American cheese, crispy hash browns, a fried egg, onions and Edmond’s Chile Company chili, all stacked on Texas toast. Hi-Pointe introduced it Oct. 19 at all six of its locations, including downtown, for dine-in, takeout and delivery through the Hi-Pointe app. It’s a limited-time item, and no end date has been announced.

Save room for the fall shake, too. Hans Me The Cake blends Clementine’s Madagascar vanilla ice cream with brownie mix, coconut and caramel, then tops it with whipped cream, toasted coconut and pecans. The pecans go only on top, not in the blend. The downtown Hi-Pointe is open 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Sunday, so Saturday dinner before puck drop works. Call (314) 405-8274.

Sports

The Blues host the Carolina Hurricanes, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. at Enterprise Center, 1401 Clark Ave. It’s the Blues’ only home game this weekend. Tickets and info: enterprisecenter.com and the Blues on Wash Ave.

If you can’t make Saturday, the Blues are back home Tuesday, Oct. 27, against the Montreal Canadiens at 7 p.m. for Pink at the Rink Night, which supports breast cancer awareness. Theme-night tickets come with a pink trucker hat.
